Olympics 2008 Beijing has officially begun. The Opening Ceremony was spectacular despite the controversial use of lil’ singer and fake fireworks on tv.
Nevertheless, Beijing has set the bar as the best Olympics Opening Ceremony so far.
“There are 86,400 seconds in a day. It’s up to you to decide what to do with them.”
This year is my first time watching The Espys. Awards that are presented to athletes for different categories. One of the categories that caught my attention was Jimmy V Award for Perseverance. The Espys was awarded to Kevin Everett, former Buffalo Bills footballer who fought back to make a remarkable recovery from a paralyzing injury. NFL September 2007, he laid on a football field, paralyzed after helmet to helmet hit. Everett sustained a fracture and dislocation of cervical spine (neck). Doctor even said that the ‘life-threatening” injury is likely to leave him permanent nerves impairment. He night not be able to walk again.
“I couldn’t move my arms and legs. I knew it was bad. And I was thinking, wow, I will never be able to move again. On the stretcher, I was trying my hardest to put a thumbs up to my teammates. To let them know I was alright. But I wasn’t alright.”-Kevin Everett
He has go through more than four hours of emergency surgery with eight screws, two rods and a titanium plate to realigned the spine. After two weeks in the ICU, Everett showed remarkable signs of movements and then transferred to rehab facility.
“Nobody thought I would be recovering like this. Just stick with it, fight hard, be positive, don’t give up on anything.“
Don’t give up. Don’t ever give up. “Nothing is impossible” which is why Kansas won NCAA 2008 Basketball by forcing Memphis to the overtime . Celtics won 2008 NBA 4 -2 on Lakers, the first “NBA’s six-game sweep.” Rafael Nadal won Wimbledon 2008 and dethroned five times champion, Roger Federer.
It’s possible to be in UPA Nationals. Yes. Dream big, work hard.
Rafael Nadal of Spain or Roger Federer of Switzerland?
Turning 27 this August 8th, Federer will face Nadal, 22 this Sunday July 6th for Wimbledon 2008 Final Men’s Single at All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in Wimbledon, England.
Wimbledon is the only play on grass court and is the third Grand Slam tournament of every year after Australian Open which is played on hard courts and French Open (Rolland Garros) on clay courts. It is then followed by U.S. Open, being played on hard courts.

Nadal seems to be doing very well on grass. He’s now a better all-court player as he won Artois Championship on grass in the same campaign with French Open. Let’s not forget that Federer hasn’t suffered a reverse on grass for past five years.
Wimbledon 2007, Nadal came so close to ousting Federer in the fifth set. This time, it’s going to be Nadal’s third appearance in the final and sixth for Federer. Number one seeded Federer against second seeded Nadal.
June 30th, Spain won Euro 2008. One week later, Roger Federer meets Rafael Nadal in the final of Wimbledon 2008.
